The biological treatment of industrial wastewaters which are rich in starch can be effectively achieved either by anaerobic or aerobic processes or by a combination of the two.
For example, factories producing cassava starch create high levels of COD, BOD5, as well as total and suspended salids. They also create moderate levels of nitrogen and phosphorus often in very significant wastewater volumes where anaerobic processes would be typically recommended, in arder to take advantage of the opportunity to produce and reuse the biogas.
The BIOTECS AnUp↑-SB and BIOTECS AnUp↑-SB+ anaerobic reactors have been utilised with great success for these types of industrial wastewaters.
