Biogas is a very valuable byproduct of the anaerobic biological process thanks to its methane gas content (CH4) which creates a source of energy (1 Nm3 CH4 →+/- 10 kWh de energia).
Normally, it is captured as the main source or as an alternative source in the cogeneration of electrical energy (boiler + turbo generator, motor + generator, etc.) or as a thermal source (steam production, product drying, etc.).
BIOTECS designs, supplies and installs systems for the generation and reuse of biogas using equipment from technology partners and third-party companies specialised in the main types of equipment used in these systems (humidity reduction, safety systems, electrical control panels, modification of burners, etc).
The capture and reuse of biogas can give you a free, clean and infinitely renewable energy source which takes the place of fossil fuels in providing heat or power. For factories, which produce medium to high levels of organic loads, this can be an attractive solution from a financial, as well as a technical point of view in addition to the positive reduction of the environmental impact.
However, the economic viability of this option depends largely on the daily organic load produced, the specification and reliability of the technology and equipment used for the production of biogas and for the cogeneration and distribution of energy, as well as current energy charges and the availability of government incentives or subsidies.
The most widely known applications for the reuse of biogas is for alcohol distilleries and beverage manufacturing (especially breweries), as well as producers of starch and biodiesel, slaughterhouses, freezer plants, landfill leachate units and others.
We can now offer you our CovAL+ - Covered Anarobic Lagoon Plus anaerobic reactor which is designed and built in the form of a pyramid exchange lagoon. This reactor not only conforms with all standard safety and performance standards but also provides an excellent cost/benefit ratio where the availability of land and other local conditions are appropriate.
CovAL+ reactors are particularly useful for the production and capture of biogas since they are capable of treating wastewater with high organic loads.
Biogas can be generated by different types of processes and anaerobic reactors including BIOTECS AnUp↑-SB (the most widely used of our reactors around the world) and the BIOTECS AnUp↑-C-Series. These are typically constructed in reinforced concrete or carbon steel with appropriate internal protective coatings or sometimes in fibreglass for specialised applications.Biogas can also be collected from anaerobic lagoons where these are covered with highly resistant plastic membranes to protect the process from ultraviolet light. These installations are carefully developed and constructed with a waterproof coating at the bottom and are either wholly or partially below ground.
