A wide number of national and international research institutions continues to search for the best and most efficient ways to reduce water consumption whether through education or by optimising industrial processes in general. They are equally concerned about the constant changes in climatic conditions and the difficulties of controlling the environmental impact on our natural resources, as a result of a growing worldwide population and ever increasing demands upon our water supply.

While the volume of available water on the Earth is huge, only a small portion is available for our use and only a fraction is suitable for human consumption meaning that it is vital to protect this indispensable yet vulnerable resource.

The treatment of surface and groundwater for different uses can be achieved through a variety of physical, chemical or physico-chemical processes which range from separation of simple solids (filtration through cloth, sand, activated carbon etc.) more sophisticated processes (such as: flotation, electrodialysis and so on) all the way through to systems which use physical barriers made from ultrapure microfilters better known as membranes which provide a high capacity solution for the removal of solids, salts, proteins, colours, turbidity, etc.
