LandfillLeachate

Landfill
Leachate

When it comes to wastewater with more challenging substances and greater variety in their volumes and characteristics we also have tailor-made solutions. For example, in the case of landfill leachate we typically specify a combination of biological processes, preceded and complemented by efficient pre-treatment and then followed by tertiary treatments.

New landfill normally presents high levels of COD, B0D5 and TDS, while high levels of TKN can be more problematic since it damages the biological process and cause high environmental impact. New landfill leachate also typically contains low levels of heavy metals, as well as other minor components.

Where environmental regulation requires us to reduce or remove substances based on total nitrogen then we typically recommend a combination process comprising two sequential biological phases - nitrification and denitrification as the most economic solution.

Where there is a requirement to remove ammonia together with other organic matter we would suggest a different combination of processes - an aerobic treatment followed by nitrification, typically using our BIOTECS-Aer-MBR reactor.

BIOTECS-BR

Depending on the application and reuse, BIOTECS-BR can remove contaminating gases, particularly Sulphur Dioxide (desulphurisation) and CO2, where these are an integral part of the biogas. This process improves the specific energetic level of the biogas while, at the same time, reducing the noxious effects of the acid gases.
